Wilander Boost For South Australia

The South Australian breeding industry has received a tremendous boost with news explosive sprinter Wilander will stand at Lindsay Park Stud in the spring.

A group winner at two and three, Wilander will stand at South Australia’s most famous thoroughbred property after the deal brokered by Magic Millions.

The blue blooded four-year-old made a booming start to his career on the track when he won his first ever race at two at Ballarat by eight lengths.

He stepped immediately up to Group Three company to win the Blue Diamond Prelude before being beaten just 3.7 lengths in the Group One Blue Diamond.

As a three-year-old Wilander scored a memorable win in the Group Two Schillaci Stakes at Caulfield. He also finished a close up fourth in the Lightning Stakes to Horse of the Year Scenic Blast.

Two starts later he sizzled down the famous Flemington straight to win the listed Bob Hoysted.

Magic Millions Managing Director David Chester said Wilander looked an exceptional prospect for Lindsay Park Stud.

“Wilander is without doubt the most exciting sire prospect to enter South Australia for some time,” Chester commented.

“He has all the right ingredients to make it. The explosive racehorses – those with a great turn of foot – are the ones who make it.”

“And he has a top class pedigree.”

“We’re looking forward to the opportunity of selling his progeny at the Adelaide Yearling Sale and our other sales in the years to come.”

“It wouldn’t surprise me to see Wilander develop into the next Without Fear for Lindsay Park Stud.”

Lindsay Park Stud’s Sam Hayes said Wilander was the perfect fit for South Australia.

“We have been looking for a speed Danehill line stallion to compliment our roster and Wilander fits the bill perfectly.”

“He was a $625,000 yearling, a Group winning two-year-old and three-year-old with an outstanding pedigree. That is a recipe that works.”

“His fee of $8,800 will entice a healthy book of mares and we are inviting shareholders to participate at $30,000 a share which entitles everyone to two shareholder noms in each of the first four years and one every year after that.”

“We are fortunate that Darley have a strong selection of colts coming off the track and being based outside of NSW and Victoria we had the unique opportunity to secure a first class prospect. It is nice to know that pristine countryside is not the only advantage of being in the Barossa Valley!”

Wilander’s pedigree is constantly growing in stature. His sire is one of Danehill’s most brilliant sons Exceed And Excel; already the producer of twenty-two stakes winners.

His dam Scandinavia was a highly talented Group Two winner and four times placed at Group One level. She has also produced Wilander’s three quarter brother and Group One winner Magnus along with Helsinge, dam of the exceptional filly Black Caviar.

The Danehill/Snippets cross that Wilander possesses is that also of high class two and three year-old Snitzel, now a successful young sire.

His second dam Song Of Norway (by Vain) produced four stakes winners and rounds out what is a gifted, tough and precocious colonial family.

Wilander ($8,800) will stand alongside Good Journey ($13,200), Reaan ($12,100), Barely a Moment ($12,100), Face Value ($5,500) and De Beers ($5,500).
