Written Tycoon Colt Tops Day Three on Gold Coast

Written Tycoon Colt Tops Day Three on Gold Coast

A colt by Written Tycoon has topped Day Three of the 2019 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale when selling for $900,000 today.

Leading Sydney based bloodstock agent James Harron secured the top seller of the day and hoped he would graduate into a Capitalist who won the Magic Millions 2YO Classic and Golden Slipper before retiring to stud.

Capitalist, like today’s $900,000 seller, was sold on the Gold Coast and is a son of Woodside Park’s star resident sire Written Tycoon, also another Magic Millions Yearling Sale purchase.

“He’s a really nice colt,” Harron said of Lot 624. “He’s got such a laid back attitude.”

“He’s very well bodied. You would have seen him walk around the ring – there’s a lot of quality about the horse.”

“It looks like he will go early and we’re delighted to get him.”

“A bit like Capitalist, this guy looks precocious too – very mature, very forward and very strong so hopefully he can get up and run early as well,” Harron added.

The colt was offered by Milburn Creek, as agent, and is the third foal of the twice Adelaide stakes winning Blevic mare Golden Penny.

The good sale for Yarraman Park sire I Am Invincible continued when the colt from Group One winner Hurtle Myrtle sold to Phoenix Thoroughbreds and Aquis Farm for $800,000.

The Hurtle Myrtle colt was offered by Segenhoe Stud Australia and was catalogued as Lot 665.

The same Phoenix Thoroughbreds and Aquis Farm partnership purchased the Snitzel-Fortune of War colt (Lot 597) from Edinburgh Park for $800,000 for the Zoustar-Igraine filly (Lot 675) from Gilgai Farm for $750,000.

Mill Park Stud’s Not a Single Doubt filly from Hussy By Choice attracted plenty of interest when she was offered – eventually being knocked down to the bid of Peachester Lodge for $725,000.

The China Horse Club/Newgate Bloodstock partnership remains the leading buyer of the sale by spend with an outlay so far of $5.32 million on 12 lots. James Harron Bloodstock ($5.2 million on 8 lots) and Waller Racing/Mulcaster Bloodstock ($5.095 million) are not far behind.

Leading sire by average for three or more sold is Arrowfield Stud’s Redoute’s Choice who has seen 14 of his progeny sell at an average price of $567,500. Medaglia d’Oro, I Am Invincible, Fastnet Rock and Snitzel round out the top five.

With three days of the sale completed the sale gross has reached a record $149.38 million with a healthy average price of $237,866 and impressive clearance rate of 87 per cent.

“Today was a solid day’s trading,” Magic Millions Managing Director Barry Bowditch said.

“It was a day where we didn’t think we’d have a million dollar lot, but we almost got there. There was very solid buying all the way through.”

“There was value to be seen at the middle and lower end (of the market) and we’re really happy with we’ve ended tonight with.”

“87% is a really good clearance rate and while the average dropped a bit we are really happy with the sale.”

“We have just over 90 lots catalogued tomorrow night after the $10 million raceday. There’s some really good lots to go under the hammer and we believe it’s going to be a strong night of selling,” Bowditch added.

Day Four of the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale will commence at 6pm (Qld time) tomorrow following the $10 million The Star Gold Coast Magic Millions Raceday at the Gold Coast Turf Club.
