Youngsters Impress At Rockhampton Breeze Ups

The scene is set for next month’s Magic Millions National Horses in Training Sale following the fourth and final session of breeze ups being held at Rockhampton today.

Despite being fronted by a slow (6) track after 74mm of rain during the week, the 26 exciting racetrack prospects impressed when they breezed on the course proper.

The Gold Coast sale bound youngsters produced some brilliant times considering the same turf yesterday hosted a race meeting on a heavy (9) track.

A number of prospects broke the 11 second barrier on the day – headed by a Garrison Savannah colt and a Minardi filly who both ran 10.3.

A Falvelon filly (10.5), a Hussonet colt (10.7) and a filly by Garrison Savannah (10.8) rounded out the top five for the session’s quickest times.

Garrison Savannah, who provided two of the five quickest performers today, is a Danehill half brother to Cox Plate winner and exciting young sire Savabeel.

“Today’s session was a great success,” Magic Millions Bloodstock Consultant Barry Bowditch reported.

“There were plenty of concerns at yesterday’s race meeting as to the weather and the track condition but under the circumstances it presented brilliantly.”

“The vendors and all of their staff did a fantastic job in their preparations and also through the staging of today’s session.”

“We must thank the Rockhampton Jockey Club for hosting this important session of breeze ups at Callaghan Park.”

“The Rockhampton Jockey Club and Racing Queensland have provided us with great support in preparation for the National Horses in Training Sale.”

“And we also want to thank Tony McMahon for his time and efforts in providing commentary during the session,” Bowditch summed up.

The staging of today’s Rockhampton session rounds out this week’s four day program around the country.

The Gold Coast Turf Club hosted sessions on Monday and Tuesday, while yesterday 70 youngsters impressed at the Seymour Racing Club.

The ready made gallopers will converge on the Gold Coast for the 2010 Magic Millions National Horses in Training Sale on October 27 and 28.

Footage from each breeze up will be available next week on the Magic Millions website. DVDs are also being produced for distribution around the globe.
