Zac Gives National Sale Group One Boost

Zac Spirit provided a timely boost for the Magic Millions National Weanling Sale when he won Sunday’s Group One Lion City Cup (1200m) at Kranji in Singapore.

In a sizzling gallop where he stopped the clock in 1 minute 8.78 seconds, Zac Spirit cruised home to beat Emperor Max by a length and a half.

A $95,000 graduate of the 2010 National Weanling Sale, Zac Spirit is trained by Cliff Brown and is the winner of eight of his 12 starts.

The outstanding sprinter will now be out to emulate another former Magic Millions National Sale graduate Rocket Man in the region’s biggest sprint, the KrisFlyer International on May 18.

“We just need to keep ticking him over and I think there’s still improvement in him before the KrisFlyer,” Brown told the Singapore Turf Club.

The win of Zac Spirit was a timely boost for the team from Newhaven Park who are preparing his three quarter brother for this year’s National Weanling Sale in late May.

The youngster, catalogued as Lot 133, is a bay colt by champion sire Redoute’s Choice and from the stakes performed and grand producing mare Kidman.

A daughter of Quest for Fame, Kidman earned black type twice at two and was a winner in Melbourne before retiring to stud.

From five foals to race she has produced Zac Spirit as well as his three quarter brother, fellow Singapore based group winner Zac Influence. Another of her progeny, the Strategic gelding Treat is a Sydney winner.

Newhaven Park have a quality packed draft of 25 weanlings heading to the National Sale including other youngsters by sires including Snitzel, Wanted, Helmet, Star Witness, All American, Fastnet Rock, Gio Ponti, Bel Esprit and Written Tycoon.

The 2014 National Weanling Sale will be conducted on May 25 and 26 with 527 youngsters entered including lots by over 20 exciting first season sires.
