Annlea’s Timely Boost For National

The upcoming Magic Millions National Sale received a boost on two accounts when talented three-year-old filly Annlea won impressively at Flemington today.

Prepared by Mathew Ellerton and Simon Zahra, Annlea sat off the speed, but came with a well timed run under former Perth apprentice Damian Lane to win impressively.

Ellerton has a good opinion of the filly and thinks she will be suited to longer distances in better class in the spring.

“She’s a very genuine little filly,” Ellerton said. “I thought she would measure up today because first up against the colts over 1100 (metres) she was pretty good.”

“We did have in the back of our minds heading to Queensland but we got a run or two behind,” he added.

“We might give her another run and then send her for a little break. She might come back better at four in the spring.”

The win was the first at Flemington for Damian Lane, 17, a former Perth based apprentice who is on loan to the Ellerton-Zahra stable.

“He’s a very good horseman,” Ellerton said of Lane. “He’s got a good head on his shoulders – he’s been an excellent boarder, he’s been living with me.”

“He’s very mature for his age and he’s a very hard worker.”

Annlea was purchased by the Barry and Midge Griffith’s Northwood Park for $11,000 from the draft of Darlington Stud at the 2009 Magic Millions National Yearling Sale.

As it stands her impressive record reads out at four wins and two runner-up placings from just nine runs and earnings of $154,838.

The filly is one of three winners, from three to race, of the city winning Octagonal mare Little Madame.

Little Madame’s latest weanling, a brown filly by promising freshman sire All Bar One, is catalogued as lot 585 for the upcoming National Weanling Sale.

The filly will go under the hammer during the third session of the sale on Friday. Session One of the auction will commence on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Snip ‘n’ Run made it two wins from three starts when the Snippetson juvenile won at Morphettville this afternoon.

Prepared by Leon Macdonald and Andrew Gluyas, Snip ‘n’ Run cruised home to beat the Lee Freedman trained stablemates Chaplin and Trail.

Snip ‘n’ Run was purchased for $12,000 from the 2009 Magic Millions National Weanling Sale and he’s already earned almost $40,000 from just three runs.

Snippetson, also represented today by Sydney winner Nobby Snip, has 11 weanlings catalogued for the upcoming National Weanling Sale and four yearlings for the National Yearling Sale.
