Beneteau Colt Highlights Day One of Perth Yearling Sale

Beneteau Colt Highlights Day One of Perth Yearling Sale

A cracking colt by leading freshman sire Beneteau was the star act on Day One of the 2015 Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale at Belmont today.

Offered at the auction by Yarradale Stud the colt attracted significant interest from many parties before local trainer Neville Parnham went head to head with Sydney based horseman Gary Moore.

Parnham held the bid at $340,000 when the gavel fell and he was delighted to snare the prized offering.

“He was probably the best colt in the sale,” Parnham said.

“The Beneteaus are burning up the track so we were pretty keen to have a go at him. My client Santo Guagliardo was pretty keen on it.”

Parnham said connections would try and target Australia’s richest raceday at the Gold Coast in January next year with their latest high profile purchase.

“That’s the target for sure. He looks well developed and a very mature colt. We will get him broken in and give him a little early education and we’ll be planning to head to that race (the $2.5 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic).”

The Beneteau colt is eight foal of the well related and top producing Honour and Glory mare Zaldivar and was catalogued as lot 159.

He is a half brother to four winners including the Group Two South African star Honorine and is from a mare closely related to international Group One winners Darsi, Darjina, Daryaba and Daryakana.

Four yearlings shared the honour of being the second top priced lot of the day when sold at $160,000.

Two of the quartet were fillies by War Chant from Yarradale Stud. The Queen’s Gem filly sold to Boomer Bloodstock in conjunction with Vern Brockman and the La Sirenuse filly was knocked down to Morton Racing.

Oakland Park Stud’s Charge Forward colt from Corina Gal attracted strong interest and was knocked down trainer Simon Miller bidding on behalf of Mt Hallowell Stud.

The other $160,000 seller was Dawson Stud’s Sepoy-Paradise Park half sister to Grand Nirvana to Damon Gabbedy’s Melbourne based Belmont Bloodstock Agency.

On his first trip to the Perth Yearling Sale leading Sydney trainer Gary Portelli purchased three lots including the lovely Exceed and Excel-Bella Valentina filly from Dawson for $155,000.

All up over the day over $6.3 million was traded on 122 lots sold at an average price of over $52,000 at a clearance rate of 63 per cent.

“It’s been a tough day at the office,” Magic Millions Managing Director Vin Cox stated. “The one shining light of the sale was the highest priced horse we’ve sold at the sale since 2007.”

“We’re extremely disappointed with the clearance rate – there’s no hiding behind that. The average has come in a little under last year which is also disappointing.”
