Big Brown Colt Tops 2YOs in Training Sale

A well bred colt by Big Brown topped a successful Magic Millions Gold Coast 2YOs in Training Sale today.

Presented at the auction by Washpool Lodge, the colt is a half brother to the outstanding Macau galloper Good Master as well as former Gold Coast prepared stakes filly Merryanna.

The colt attracted strong interest and after a fierce battle he sold for $230,000 to Magic Millions, acting as agent for a leading Singapore trainer. Rosehill’s Gary Moore was the under bidder.

The buyer of the top priced colt will be hoping he can establish himself the latest Washpool Lodge star sold at the sale following on from the likes of Macau champion Viva Pronto and Melbourne and Australian Cup hero Shocking.

Leading local trainer Bevan Laming made the early running at the sale when he purchased Lot 16, Kenmore Lodge’s Authorized-La Redoute colt for $220,000.

He is the first foal of a three time winning Redoute’s Choice mare who hails from the family of international Group One winners including Flying Snowdrop and Sparkling Gem.

Another Kenmore Lodge offering, the Not a Single Doubt-Take Charge colt, who ran the fastrest breeze up of the sale, at 10 seconds flat, was sold for $205,000.

Victoria’s Newlands Farm outlasted a number of parties to secure the colt and he is likely to join a leading Victorian stable.

Washpool Lodge, who supplied the sale topper, also provided the next two top sellers – colts by Oratorio and Congrats for $180,000 and $155,000 respectively – both to Gary Moore.

Magic Millions Managing Director Vin Cox said his team was pleased the results of the sale.

“There are a lot of great stories that have come out of the 2YOs in Training Sale, not least the participation of the Macau Jockey Club, bidding live over the internet throughout the sale and we thank them for their support.”

“Credit must be given to David Chester who has been working on this project for the last month, as well as attracting active buyers from Korea, Malaysia, China and the Phillipines.”

“The participation at the upper levels by domestic buyers suggests the two-year-old market is now firmly in investor’s minds.”

“To have a clearance rate of almost 80 per cent in a two-year-old sale is phenomenal. It was a good market for vendors and buyers alike.”

Meanwhile, a Casino Prince filly closely related to former champion international racehorse and now top sire prospect Frankel topped the Patinack Farm Complete Dispersal of 2YOs following the 2YOs in Training Sale.

The filly from Endless was purchased for $340,000 by Tony Bott’s E Thoroughbred Pty Ltd outfit and helped return that sale a gross tonight of over $2.5 million at an average price of almost $47,000 for 51 lots sold.
