Devil Moon Filly Tops Yearling Dispersal

A filly from former outstanding racemare Devil Moon topped today’s Magic Millions Patinack Farm Complete Dispersal of yearlings on the Gold Coast.

The filly, a daughter of Husson, was the top seller during a day in which over $4.4 million was traded on a quality line up of exciting young yearlings.

Queensland based bloodstock agent Craig Rounsefell was delighted to purchased the filly through his Boomer Bloodstock business for $260,000.

“I looked at all of the yearlings and this is the filly I thought was the real stand out,” Rounsefell said. “She is by a stallion who has done a great job with his opportunities and her dam was a very, very good mare.”

“She’s a great physical type and she has great residual value. I was keen to buy her.”

Rounsefell said the filly was purchased to race and not pin-hooked for a later sale.

“She’s going to grow into a lovely filly with good size and she will be retained to race.”

The Devil Moon filly was one of four to sell on the day at price of $200,000 or more.

Sharing the second place on the top selling leaderboard were youngsters by Casino Prince and Husson who both sold for $205,000 to David Pfieffer, acting as agent for a New South Wales client.

The Casino Prince colt is from the grand producer Ocean Bridge and is a brother to outstanding racemare Longport. The other $205,000 seller, a Husson filly, is from the Group One winner Serious Speed.

The first lot in the ring this afternoon – the Husson-Allez Wonder filly – was purchased by Vinery Stud for $200,000.

Spirited bidding during the day helped return a sale gross of $4,453,500 for 130 lots sold at an average price of $34,258.

Magic Millions Managing Director Vin Cox said it was pleasing to see another great crowd and strong bidding during the day.

“We had to pull the sale together at short notice and the quality lots on offer attracted a large and diverse buying bench,” Cox said.

“From a Magic Millions perspective it is very rewarding to attract a buying bench of this nature and the level of participation is testament to the conduct of the sale.”

“We are looking forward to the 2YO sale where he have a critical mass and more importantly some 120 horses who ran sub 11 second breeze ups – time does matter.”

The Gold Coast Turf Club hosted the final breeze up session on Monday morning in the lead up to Tuesday’s 2YOs in Training Sale.

Some 27 two-year-olds ran sub 11 times to round out 123 for the sale. The quickest breeze today coming from a Dr Doute’s filly (Lot 51) who stopped the clock in 10.17 seconds.
