A beautifully bred daughter of champion sire More Than Ready topped the Magic Millions National Yearling Sale when she was sold for $190,000 during the second session at the Gold Coast today.
Brisbane based horseman Danny Bougoure, best known through the exploits of former star galloper Falvelon, was delighted to nab his top pick from the popular auction.
“She has a lot going for her,” Bougoure said. “Others in the family had averaged about $400,000 so she looks great value.”
“She has a great pedigree and she’s a really lovely filly. Thankfully I had a client for her and I’m thrilled to be able to buy her.”
“She is the most expensive horse I’ve purchased and after buying a colt by More Than Ready yesterday (for $130,000) I’m very happy.”
The filly is from the group winning Bigstone mare Lady Mulan and is therefore a half sister to six time winner and black type galloper Absent Friends.
The top lot was offered by Willow Park – the vendors of the all time Magic Millions record breaker, Princess Coup ($3 million at the National Broodmare Sale).
A further eight lots today sold for $100,000 or more bringing the two day sale total to 18 six figure sellers.
Hong Kong based agent Justin Bahen snapped up two of the other big sellers on the day including the Haradasun-Classy Dane filly for $175,000.
“There’s an adjustment taking place in the market and we’ve seen that over recent days,” Magic Millions Managing Director Vin Cox said.
“The clearance rate of 70 per cent, and even higher today, was pleasing in this climate.”
“That is probably more an indication of vendors meeting the market rather than the market itself.”
“There appears to have been some great value buying and this will continue during the third session of the National Yearling Sale tomorrow,” Cox added.
The strong international buying bench remained active today with successful buyers from countries including Hong Kong, Singapore, South Africa, Korea, New Zealand and the Philippines.
A number of interstaters were in the thick of the action with buyers from Victoria, New South Wales, Tasmania, Western Australia and South Australia going head to head with the local Queensland buyers.
The third session of the sale will be held from 11am (Qld time) tomorrow.
The National Sale will then conclude on Wednesday with the National Racehorse Sale from 11am with a quality packed catalogue including a large number of proven metropolitan winners.
