Entries Open for Southern Hemisphere’s Leading Breeding Stock Sale

After a record breaking series of sales in 2014, Australia’s number one thoroughbred sales company Magic Millions is delighted to announce that entries are now open for the 2015 National Weanling, Broodmare, Yearling and Racehorse Sale on the Gold Coast in late May and early June.

With well in excess of 600 individual buyers across all sections of the sale in 2014, the Magic Millions National Sale has established itself as the fastest growing breeding stock sale in the world, and undoubtedly a proven marketplace for attracting an extensive buying bench to maximise returns for breeders in the sale ring.

The 2014 National Broodmare Sale made headlines around the world with 10 individual lots fetching prices over $1 million during a sale in which almost $70 million was grossed. The growth of the sale is astonishing with a gross in 2012 of $19.85 million at an average of $66,000 and then a year later it grew to $29.85 million and $71,000 respectively.

No fewer than 174 lots at last year’s Broodmare sale cracked the six figure mark and while the Teeley Dispersal draft topped the headlines their draft included just 32 of those 174. The top price of $2.3 million for Monsoon Wedding was the highest price paid for any lot at auction in the Southern Hemisphere in 2014.

Dozens of fillies and mares purchased from this sale in recent years have gone on to win at Group One and stakes level and given their new connections immediate returns. A prime example is Sister Madly, the stakes winning half sister to Silent Witness, purchased by Segenhoe Stud for $1 million. She raced on with Group Two success and a Group One placing before retiring to stud. Her first foal, a cracking colt by Sepoy, recently topped the Gold Coast Yearling Sale for $1.2 million.

The National Weanling Sale, the sale which saw Group One winners Pierro, Driefontein and Peggy Jean recently graduate, has established itself as a premier source of future racetrack and sale stars. Whether looking to buy to race or buy to pin-hook, the Magic Millions National Weanling Sale has become a must attend event for buyers, both domestic and international.

At the 2014 National Weanling Sale the gross soared 68 per cent with an average price of $43,559 – up almost 30 per cent on the sale twelve months earlier with no fewer than 230 individual buyers. The sale of a Lonhro filly for $710,000 set an Australasian record.

Equally as impressive results were enjoyed at the 2014 National Yearling Sale with a record 75 yearlings selling for over $50,000 and the international spend rising 46 per cent in twelve months. The top price was $300,000 for a daughter of Fastnet Rock to leading New Zealand buyer David Ellis.

With graduates including international champions Rocket Man and Princess Coup, Golden Slipper heroine Polar Success, Oakleigh Plate winner Woorim and reigning Oaks winner Tinto, the National Yearling Sale is attracting more prospective buyers from Australia and overseas each year.

The yearling sale will also give buyers another chance to secure a youngster eligible to be paid up for the Magic Millions Race Series and be in the running for $11.19 million annually in exclusive Magic Millions events around the country.

The National Racehorse Sale, always popular with buyers from every state of Australia as well as abroad, will complete the selling schedule in early June. Entries for this sale will close on April 17, while all other sections of the sale will have entries closing on March 13.
