Fastnet Filly Rocks Second Weanling Session

A filly by in form young sire Fastnet Rock topped the second and final select session of the Magic Millions National Weanling Sale at the Gold Coast today.

Offered by Coolmore Stud, the filly was knocked down to VCB / Garry Cuddy for $185,000.

Bidding kicked off with a $100,000 offer and she was immedately announced as “on the market.” Bids continued for the next couple of minutes from a number of parties before she was knocked down at her sale price.

“She’s a good sized filly from a former good sprinting mare and is by a stallion who can’t do much wrong,” Garry Cuddy said.

“She has a popular pedigree and has a lot of things going for her and our clients are very happy to have bought her,” Cuddy added.

The filly is the second foal of the former classy Melbourne sprinting Ne Coupez Pas mare Satin Robes.

A winner of three races including the listed Kensington Stakes at Flemington, Satin Robes earned over $330,000. As well as her wins, she was placed in no fewer than eight stakes events.

Two other weanlings from the Coolmore Stud draft today sold for $150,000 – the Encosta de Lago-Suppose colt to Ryanco Pty Ltd and the Henrythenavigator-Bush Honey filly to Edward O’Dwyer.

A colt by Stratum (ex True Seduction from Woodside Park Stud for $145,000) and a filly by Commands (ex Calming from Rothwell Park for $115,000) were purchased by Cameron Cooke Bloodstock and Ryanco Pty Ltd respectively.

All up over the past two days 281 weanlings changed hands at a sale gross of $7,355,000 at an average price of $26,274 and clearance rate of over 70 per cent.

“Today’s session was slightly better than yesterday’s corresponding first session,” Magic Millions Managing Director Vin Cox said.

“As was the case yesterday, most vendors met the market today in what has been a tough sale so far.”

Cox said the absence of a number of regular buyers due to the high Australian dollar was having an impact on prices across the board.

“The most significant impact on the sale has been the reduced participation from traditional supporters – mainly New Zealand buyers.”

“Buyers looking for quality have found it hard to buy the horses they have wanted,” Cox summed up.

Tomorrow’s third session of the National Weanling Sale will provide those seeking exceptional value with a great chance to buy a youngster at a bargain price.

A tidy line up of weanlings will go under the hammer at the Gold Coast complex from 10am (Qld time).

The attention will then swing to the first session of the National Broodmare Sale – to commence on Sunday.
