Lady Colours Books Classic Berth

Lady Colours joined the picture for next Saturday’s $2 million BMW Magic Millions 2YO Classic with a brilliant win in a 900 metre dash for juveniles today.

Prepared a stone’s throw from the track by Bruce Hill, Lady Colours zipped around the Gold Coast track in 50.97 seconds – just outside Murphy’s Blu Boy’s class record of 50.62 seconds.

The daughter of Red Dazzler zipped home late in the race making it impossible for the back markers to reel in the leaders – the last 600 metres of the race run in a sizzling 32.96 seconds.

Hill said provided the promising filly pulled up well from today’s race she would be taking her place in Queensland’s richest race.

“Provided she’s alright she will run (in the Classic),” Hill said. “She is tough and just an ideal racehorse.”

“1200 (metres) is what she is looking for now. Hopefully if she draws barrier one of two she might be there in the finish (next week).”

“I might not get a run with the other two-year-old (Antarctic Dream).”

Lady Colours was sent out the favourite after an eye catching third placing at Rosehill last week behind high regarded Magic Millions Classic contender Amorino.

“She was always going to improve with the run down there,” Hill said. “She came home and didn’t miss a beat all week.”

The filly was given her chance of success in today’s event with the addition of blinkers by connections.

“She had worked in the blinkers a few times and coming back to 900 metres she just might need a bit of help.”

“She’s a good filly,” Hill added.

Lady Colours, a $90,000 purchase from the draft of Corella Stud at last March’s Magic Millions QTIS Yearling Sale, hails from a family of proven Magic Millions winners.

Her dam, the city winning Spectrum mare Rainbow Joy, has thrown two winners from as many runners – the other is the Magic Millions Maiden Plate winner Retrospect.

Rainbow Joy is from the Danzatore mare Dancer’s Joy – a former high class juvenile who won the fillies division of the Magic Millions 2YO Classic in her year.
