New Group One Star In National Sale

Yet another star Group One winning racemare will go under the hammer at the upcoming Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale at the Gold Coast.

Hurtle Myrtle, an outstanding daughter of Dane Shadow, is the latest star lot to join the country’s leading breeding stock auction.

A winner of four races and over $773,000, Hurtle Myrtle confirmed her status as one of the country’s most talented mares last spring when she won the Group One Myer Classic at Flemington.

Presented in the Kitchwin Hills draft, Hurtle Myrtle has been catalogued as lot 495 and she will go under the hammer with the other supplementary lots after lot 286 on Tuesday May 29.

Bred on the successful Danehill/Woodman cross, Hurtle Myrtle has the rare distinction of winning Group One or Two races in Australia’s three top racing cities – Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.

Under the care of top Warwick Farm horseman Matthew Smith, Hurtle Myrtle won the Sapphire Stakes in Sydney and the Dane Ripper Stakes in Brisbane before winning the Myer Classic last spring.

The mare, accomplished on all types of going, ran third in one of the strongest recent editions of the Flight Stakes. Champion mare More Joyous won the race from Sister Madly, while Melito, another National Broodmare Sale entry, was fourth.

She is one of three winners produced by the Sydney winning Woodman mare Ravenswood – a half sister to stakes winner Whisper Bay.

Ravenswood in turn is from a lightly raced Bletchingly sister to Golden Slipper winner and accomplished sire Star Watch.

Other members of her family include high class stakes winners Prince Rubiton, Catriona, Speedy Leo, News Alert and another National Broodmare Sale prospect, Magic Millions Guineas winner Graceful Anna.

Hurtle Myrtle joins a stellar list of race fillies and mares being sold as maiden breeding prospects straight off the track.

Others set to go under the hammer include Sacred Choice, Scarlett Lady, Miss Keepsake, Vintedge, Karuta Queen, Valentine Miss, Funtantes, Twilight Savings, Bliss Street and Triple Asset.
