Onetimeatbandcamp Wins Mm Country Cup

Clevely named gelding Onetimeatbandcamp scored the biggest win of his career to date when he scored a strong win in the Marriott Magic Millions Country Cup (1400m) at the Gold Coast today.

Purchased and raced by Serene Lodge’s Les Tinkler, father of Patinack Farm supremo Nathan, Onetimeatbandcamp notched career win four when he got him by three parts of a length.

Trainer John Thompson was not surprisingly delighted with the performance.

“We aimed the horse at this race a while back – it’s nice for a plan to come off,” Thompson said.

“We originally planned to come into this race first up, but he’d just done so well and he trialled well so we gave him a run at the Sunshine Coast (where he ran second).”

“The run was good. It got his fitness up and had him pretty well spot on for today.”

“He’ll keep ticking over. He’s racing well. He’s a big bugger so hopefully we might be able to stretch him out a bit as well.”

“He’s got the biggest head on a racehorse I’ve seen,” Thompson added.

As well as being the first winner on Magic Millions raceday for trainer John Thompson it was the first on Queensland’s biggest day for crack apprentice Tim Bell.

“He’s fitted in well up here,” Thompson said of the apprentice. “He’s just a kid but he sure can ride.”

“It was a good honest win,” Bell said of the three quarter length success. “We wanted to lay out a bit at the end but he’s done a great job today.”

Onetimeatbandcamp was purchased by Les Tinkler’s Serene Lodge from the draft of Hill Haven for $42,000 at the 2008 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

His stakes earnings have already shot past $88,000 and that figure looks set to rise over the coming months and years.

A son of boom sire Fastnet Rock, Onetimeatbandcamp is one of two winners for his dam, the once winner Miss American Pie.

A daughter of Unbridled’s Song, Miss American Pie is a half sister to the Gold Nugget Stakes winner Tyrannic.
