Schiffer Too Speedy In Magic Sprint

Schiffer had her connections dancing in the mounting yard when she scored a dashing win in the $200,000 Myer Magic Millions Sprint (1000m) at the Gold Coast this afternoon.

At her first run since September, Schiffer bounced back to her brilliant best with a thrilling neck win over the favourite Seek and Find.

The filly was racing at the Gold Coast for the first time since running third to star filly Karuta Queen in last year’s $2 million BMW Magic Millions 2YO Classic.

“She went very quick, I didn’t think she’d go that quick,” winning trainer Gerald Ryan said.

“We worked her in the blinkers the other morning and she fair dinkum lit up the straight at Rosehill. I came up confident she would run well.”

“She’s always shown heaps. I just said to Elio before the race that the last time she struck a dry track she won in Sydney and beat an eventual Group One winner.”

“The track was dry today – she just can’t handle the wet. She went quick and maintained it.”

“There’s a couple of good mates in the horse. Damion Flower was talking about selling his share and I told him not to sell it until after the Gold Coast.”

“The only plan after today was to go back to the water walker for a couple of weeks.”

“She’s showed heaps as a two-year-old and I’ve been a bit disappointed in her but you put the thinking cap on – change a few things, and they worked!”

Winning rider Corey Brown said he had originally planned to “box seat” just behind the leaders, but an exceptional start saw him go to the front of the field.

“We went out there with a bit of an open mind. She jumped a half length in front and I decided to lead.”

“She was consistent throughout and she was still strong to the line.”

“I had it too easy out in front with no weight on my back and the sectionals were pretty good,” Brown added.

A daughter of Ryan’s former star sprinter and Magic Millions graduate Snitzel, Schiffer was purchased by Ryan for $240,000 at the 2010 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

From just seven runs the filly has already earned connections over $360,000.

A graduate of Arrowfield Stud, Schiffer is the only named foal to date for her dam, the unraced Montjeu mare Modave.

Modave is a daughter of the Magic Millions Classic winner Vedodara and is therefore a full sister to Sharvasti and half sister to Bhandara and Shastri.

Further back it is the same family as group winners Balmacara and Linton and Magic Millions 3YO Guineas winner Jamieson Valley.
