Playtime A New Qtis 600 Star

Foreplay filly Playtime kicked away her career in style when she scored an impressive win in the $20,000 Breeders Plate (1050m) at Rockhampton today.

A half sister to two stakes performers, Playtime sat off the speed under in form apprentice Justin Wood before coming with a strong run in the straight to win well.

The filly is still quite green and there’s no doubt Barcaldine trainer Todd Austin and Blackall based owner Ralph Russell will have plenty of fun with her into the future.

Russell took a shine to Playtime at March’s Magic Millions QTIS 600 Yearling Sale at the Gold Coast and went to $36,000 to secure her from the draft of Turangga Farm.

“She looked good,” Russell said when asked what attracted him to the filly. “She has a nice pedigree and comes off a great winning farm.”

The Breeders Plate at Rockhampton was won last year by Mundi Gully – who has since won two more races and earned over $93,000.

Today’s winner Playtime is one of eigth winners produced by the well bred and top producing Centaine mare Boganvillia.

She is therefore a half sister to the group race placegetters Stormpede and Cinderella Man – both of whom are now in Hong Kong and known by their new names of Nordic Star and All Time High respectively.

Playtime’s yearling half brother by Red Dazzler is set to go under the hammer at next March’s 2011 QTIS 600 Yearling Sale.

The colt is an attractive type who is sure to impress buyers when he is presented at the famous Bundall sale ring.

“Right fromthe start when she was broken in out in the bush at Barcaldine she showed she had some good ability.”

“She has taken everything we’ve asked of her really well – and she’s never given us any trouble – she’s a lovely filly.”

Russell purchased four horses at March’s sale – another one, a God’s One youngster is a couple of weeks off racing.

Playtime is trained by former jockey and leading country horseman Todd Austin – the third generation of the family to trainer for the Russells.

“Barcaldine is about 800km away – but Todd is used to traveling!”

As for Playtime she is expected to have another run before having a let up and then connections will decide on a campaign in the south east of the state.

In winning she scooped her connections $26,800 – thanks to $14,000 QTIS 600 bonus being added to her $12,800 first place cheque.
