Kenbelle’s Boy Does It Again

Quality four-year-old Rumour and Scandal made it back to back Sydney wins when he cruised to victory at Canterbury yesterday.

The son of Elusive Quality and Group One winning mare Kenbelle easily held out his rivals under apprentice Josh Adams to win in grand style.

The win was the third in just six starts for the well bred gelding who is raced by Nathan Tinkler’s Patinack Farm Racing Syndicate and trained by John Thompson.

The promising galloper was sent out as an easing $6.50 chance despite an impressive previous start win over Merson Cooper Stakes winner Secession.

Josh Adams has ridden Rumour and Scandal twice – for two wins.

Rumour and Scandal was purchased by the Patinack Farm team for $110,000 at the 2008 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

Rumour and Scandal is one of five winners for the 100% winner producer Kenbelle – a daughter of influential sire Kenmare.

Kenbelle won three races from 1500 to 2400 metres and earned $539,440. Her biggest win coming in a Group One AJC Australian Oaks.

She also won the Group Two Queen of the Turf Stakes – a race which is now run at Group One level.

Kenbelle was also second in the Group One Ansett Australia Stakes and Wagga Gold Cup and third in a Group Three Emancipation Stakes.

The latest yearling from Kenbelle, a brown colt by Bernardini, will go under the hammer at January’s 2011 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

The colt, an outstanding individual, is being prepared by Millbrook on behalf his breeder Tony Thomas of Greendale Lodge.

“He’s a quality individual – a real athlete,” Magic Millions Bloodstock Consultant Barry Bowditch said. “He is sure to impress buyers at the sale in January.”

The 2011 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale will be held from January 12 to 21.

Meanwhile, the win of the Chris Waller trained The Verminator on the same card gave the 2011 Magic Millions Tasmanian Yearling Sale a timely boost.

With Hugh Bowman in the saddle, The Verminator finished too well for Watertight and Laughterintherein for an impressive win in the 1550 metre contest.

A half sister to The Verminator by Benicio has been entered for the feature Tasmanian auction by Macleay Thoroughbred Stud.

The bay filly is the latest yearling from the twice two-year-old winning and stakes performed Fraar mare Fraar Side.

Fraar Side, whose two runners are now both winners (the other in Singapore), is a sister to stakes placegetter Old Friends Gold and half sister to stakes winner Golden Pedigree and stakes placegetter Jeune’s Fantasy.

The 2011 Magic Millions Tasmanian Yearling Sale will be held at Launceston’s Inveresk Showgrounds on February 22.
