Rendzina’s First Foal Tops Second Day Of Yearling Sale

The first foal of former smart stakes performer Rendzina has topped the second day of the Magic Millions National Yearling Sale on the Gold Coast.

The youngster by Encosta de Lago, catalogued as lot 1796, was presented by Baramul Stud and purchased by leading New Zealand based horseman Graeme Rogerson for $250,000.

The good looking chestnut or grey filly is from the five time winning and stakes race runner-up Rendzina, a daughter of Testa Rossa who won over $223,000 in prizemoney when in the Rogerson stable.

Rendzina in turn is a daughter of the Octagonal mare Capto, a half sister to Group One Oakleigh Plate winner Khaptingly.

The second top price of the day was for the Arrowfield Stud filly by Redoute’s Choice, the first foal of Brazilian Pulse, for $170,000.

The filly will be heading to Victoria after being purchased by Blue Sky Bloodstock in conjunction with Cox Plate winning trainer Danny O’Brien.

Her dam Brazilian Pulse (Captain Rio) won five races including a VRC Oaks and earned over $1.13 million before retiring to stud. This filly was her first.

The top priced colt of the day was the Snitzel-St. Therese youngster, another member of the quality Arrowfield Stud draft.

Leading Queensland based bloodstock agent John Foote went to $160,000 to secure the colt, a three quarter brother to group winner Mirrasalo.

The select component of the National Yearling Sale rounded out with a gross of over $10 million on 290 lots sold at an average price of $34,766. The clearance rate rose today and rounded out at 70 per cent.

Magic Millions Managing Director Vin Cox said he was pleased to see such a diverse crowd of buyers on hand over the past couple of days.

“There was a wide and varied buying bench that participated from as far afield as South Africa, Singapore, Hong Kong, the Phillipines, New Zealand, Korea and from around the country and I congratulate them for their spirited bidding on the quality lots.”

“The market is a discerning judge and will not participate on horses that have a flaw for whatever reason.”

Having said that there is $10 million in breeders pockets from the National Yearling Sale,” Cox summed up.
