South Korea Targets Stromberg Carlson

Raheen Stud sire Stromberg Carlson has built up a winning reputation in South East Asia and buyers from that region will target his stock at the 2011 Magic Millions Horses in Training Sale on October 19 & 20.

With three crops racing, Stromberg Carlson has sired the winners of 95 races and his off-shore results have been boosted by a high strike-rate in South Korea.

Stromberg Carlson’s pin-up galloper in South Korea is Jeonseong Sidae who has won 4 of his 5 starts this year.

Jeonseong Sidae (2c Stromberg Carlson – Jessie’s Journey by Crown Jester) won on debut over 1000m in March and stretched out to a three length victory over 1600m last Sunday, July 17.  He has banked the equivalent of AUD 107,020 for owner Jeong Un Jin.

That’s a profitable mark-up on the $15,000 he cost from the Raheen draft at the 2010 Magic Millions HIT Sale.

Jeonseong Sidae is a younger brother to South Korean winner Yeokpoong Gangja.  She has earned over AUD 52,800 for owner Lee Seung Geun.  Raheen sold her as a foal for $8,000 at the 2008 Magic Millions National Sale.

Viva Storm (3c Stromberg Carlson – Lauren’s Charm by Knowledge) is another Raheen graduate more than paying his way in South Korea.  He has won 3 races, the last of them over 1800m in February before going out for a spell.

Sold for $10,000 from the Raheen’s consignment at the 2009 Magic Millions QTIS Sale, he has earned over AUD 130,580 for owner Kang Seung Ju.

Stromberg Carlson’s other South Korean winners include Bulmyeol Hwasin (ex Luminous Liaison by Marauding), Saeyeongung (ex Summer Air by Raise a Stanza) and Winning Man (ex Elantari by Zabeel).
