Tarzino Cruises Home in Rosehill Guineas

Tarzino will chase a second Derby success after cruising home with today’s Group One Rosehill Guineas (2000m) on Slipper Day.
The son of Tavistock proved much too good for his rivals, cruising home to beat a quality field and confirming his status as the leading staying three-year-old in the country.
Tarzino was racing for the first time in Sydney and today’s win followed his eye catching last start second in the Group One Australian Guineas to Palentino.
Trainer Mick Price described the Rosehill Guineas as a nice bonus with the AJC Australian Derby (2400m) his major mission of the preparation.
“He’s a really good colt,” Price said. “We tried to win a Caulfield Guineas and got stuck in traffic and then tried to win an Australian Guineas and he bombed the start.”
“We wanted to be a bit closer today. He got out of the gates well and took up a great spot and he was just too good for them.”
“He’s just a really good colt. He’s got a great set of lungs on him. He’s a great horse to train with a great appetite.”
“I thought today might have been a bit of a bogey race for him – first time in Sydney in a Rosehill Guineas.”
“I just can’t wait to get him to the AJC Derby at Randwick on a big track,” Price added.
Tarzino was purchased by Price for $60,000 from the Yarraman Park Stud draft at the 2014 Magic Millions National Yearling Sale.
Late last year he confirmed his class after a string of eye catching performances in features by winning the Group One VRC Derby at Flemington.
His record now reads out at nine starts for four wins and three placings and earnings of over $1.5 million.
A son of Montjeu’s Group One winning sprint son Tavistock, Tarzino is one of two runners for his dam, the lightly raced Zabeel mare Zarzino.
Zarzino, who was placed, is a full sister to Perth Cup winner Respect, stakes placegetter Kind Return and half sister to Group One winner Kindacross.
Aside from Tarzino, Zarzino is the dam of the twice raced Viking Ruler mare Fidgette – the dam of stakes placed winner Ragnaar (now in Hong Kong as Fast Ball).

Zarzino’s dam, the unraced Star Way mare Kindness is a full sister to Sky Chase – a winner of three Group One races including a Rosehill Guineas.
