Dissidient Emerges As Diamond Prospect

Dissident has emerged as a leading player for the Blue Diamond Stakes after debuting with victory in Saturday’s listed colts and geldings preview at Caulfield.

Not an original entry for the race, connections including trainer Peter Moody will have to part with a $55,000 late entry fee to get their exciting colt into the field.

“I always thought he was not going to be ready,” Moody said.

“He’s probably been one of our immature two-year-olds and you saw that in his race manners today.”

“But he’s done everything right. He’s copped it well and he’s got the job done.”

“I really can’t wait for him next season. But they’re only two once and there’s a lot of nice races coming up, so we’ll keep those options open.”

Moody took a shine to Dissident when he was presented by Widden Stud at last January’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale. He went to $210,000 to buy him.

Winning rider Vlad Duric, who has ridden many of the Blue Diamond fancies, said the performance of Dissident was full of merit.

“He’s got a lot going for him,” he said. “He’s a beautiful animal.”

“He was a little bit new, which is fair enough at his first start and he went up the straight like a drunk.”

“When he had Kuroshio in front of him to down he saw him and he really attacked the line lovely.”

“It was a big tick of approval from me,” Duric summed up.

Dissident is the first stakes winner for the Widden Stud based More Than Ready sire Sebring.

A graduate himself of the Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Sebring won five races at two including the Golden Slipper and AJC Sires’ Produce Stakes.

A winner of over $2.5 million, Sebring has made a bright start to his career as a sire with stakes performer Frill Seeking and good winners Bring a Rin, Criterion, Australia Day, Kiss a Rose and She’s a Danica.

Dissident is the first winners, from two to race, for the stakes performed and Melbourne winning Anabaa mare Diana’s Secret.

Diana’s Secret, who won to 1400 metres, is a half sister to the stakes performed Sydney winner Heir Affair.
