Extreme Colt Shares Top Billing After Day Two

Extreme Colt Shares Top Billing After Day Two

An outstanding colt by Newgate Farm’s superstar sire Extreme Choice has sold for $2 million and now shares top spot on the leaderboard after a red hot second day of the 2026 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale on Wednesday.
The colt, a Kingstar Farm bred and consigned youngster, is a full brother to the Group Three winner Wollombi and he will be racing in the famous bottle green and white colours after being purchased by Yulong Investments.

His price, a record for Kingstar Farm and Extreme Choice, now has him level with yesterday’s top selling colt by Juddmonte sire Frankel.

The Yulong purchase was one of five yearlings to sell today for at least $1.2 million during which the sale average and clearance rate increased.

“He’s a very special colt,” Yulong’s General Manager Jun Zhang said. “He was our only target that we definitely needed to buy.”

“We can see some stallion potential with him and also we own the sister as well, she is in-foal to Diatonic, so we try and create our own families so that is another reason why we had to get him.”

“Extreme Choice is a very successful stallion and could be a history (making) stallion in the future, so this is why Mr Zhang is trying to get every Extreme Choice he can.”

The team from Kingstar Farm were over the moon to make history with today’s colt eclipsing the previous best price for a yearling by the stallion held by the farm’s former Magic Millions graduate, Blue Diamond winner Devil Night.

“From the time the horse was born he was special,” Kingstar’s Stud Manager Adam Cook said.

“We bred Devil Night, we bred Stay Inside – both sons of Extreme Choice and I’m sure this bloke is going to be just as good as them.”

“It’s great that people believe in the product that we breed – I’m over the moon. I’m just so happy for Matthew (Sandblom, Kingstar Farm’s owner),” Cook summed up.

“The previous record (for Extreme Choice) was also with Yulong at $1.4 million for Devil Night, so they’re obviously a happy customer,” Matthew Sandblom added.

“They’ve come back for another one who is probably a better type than the one they’ve bought before – it’s a great result for us and Yulong it’s great because we’ve given them results.”

Two other colts on the day sold for $1.5 million including the Snitzel colt from Embrace Me.

Offered by Milburn Creek the Embrace Me colt was purchased by China Horse Club, Newgate and Clarke Bloodstock.

“We’re delighted to get the colt,” Newgate’s Henry Field reported. “A beautiful horse from a fast mare, from a great farm.”

“We loved the horse. We’ve had so much success with the likes of Invader, Russian Revolution, In The Congo. We’ve had five group one winners just by Snitzel himself.”

“I think it is one of those things where you have to buy what you love and hopefully he’s a good horse for us.”

“The partnership has been a great partnership. We have been together for ten years and produced 15 individual stallions.”

“Hopefully we can get runners. That’s the name of the game. We’ve had so much success with Magic Millions. We’ve sold two champion two-year-olds out of this consignment and bought many, many good horses. It’s been a great formula.”

A little later in the afternoon the brother to exciting colt Beadman also sold for $1.5 million. The Arrowfield Stud bred youngster was purchased by Coolmore’s Tom Magnier.

“He’ll go to Chris (Waller), so Mr Beadman (Darren, now Waller team member) better make sure this one’s a good one as well,” Magnier said.

“He’s a lovely colt. Arrowfield, we’ve had a little bit of luck there before, obviously the Messaras know how to breed a good horse by Snitzel and we’ve had a bit of luck with Snitzel, obviously with Shinzo and Switzerland.”

“There’s a great group of people in our colts fund. They all loved the horse, he’s one of the best colts on the ground.”

“We couldn’t be happier with the type, we think he’s a mature type and everybody on the team really liked him, so fingers crossed,” Magnier added.

Leading trainers Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott teamed up with the Rising Sun Syndicate to secure one of the afternoon’s most admired fillies – the I Am Invincible filly from Key.

The filly is a half sister to Im Ya Huckleberry, one of the current leading fancies for the Golden Slipper after a close up second in the Group Three Breeders’ Plate.

“It’s a very current family, a family of so much black type depth, a family I know very well,” Bott said. “We’ve got the half-brother in training who we’ve got a very high opinion of.”

“We’ve seen him on the racetrack on one occasion, so that automatically has attracted us to her. Physically and the way she presented at this sale really made her a must-have for us.”

“We were really fortunate we were able to partner up here on this filly and I must say we’re delighted we’ve been able to secure her.”

The Japanese connection behind the purchase were also very excited.

“We’re obviously looking for the best filly we can get from this whole catalogue for our owner (Knine Inc) from Japan,” Kosi Kawakami, representing the Rising Sun Syndicate, said.

“We looked at this horse and we fell in love with her. She’s the best. Obviously knowing her brother being trained by Gai and Adrian, they would be the best trainers to go for.”

“We were both in love, so we just go harder and am happy to secure her.”

“It’s a real honour to be able to buy a million-dollar filly from this catalogue,” Kawakami added. “I’m really excited.”

Another $1.2 million seller on the day came late in the session with the Snitzel colt from Krone offered by Rosemont Stud selling to James Harron’s Colt Partnership and Tony Fung Colts.

“Lovely colt,” Harron stated. “He was one of our picks across the board with all the team, ourselves and TFI, everyone just loved him.”

“He’s an athletic horse, Krone was obviously very successful on the track, a very sound, consistent mare so he was a great package.”

“We’re very happy to get him.”

“I think he’ll be early. He’s just very light on his feet, he doesn’t carry a lot of excess, he’s just very easy on himself, a real quality colt.”

“(He’s) really elastic in how he moves and just how he gets about the ground, so I get the impression he’ll just skip across the ground and be one of those really athletic type of racehorses and he really caught the eye from the very beginning,” Harron added.

The sale gross after two days of selling has reached just shy of $94 million with 326 lots so far selling for an average of $288,266. The sale is tracking ahead of the same point as in 2025.

“A very, very strong day’s trade,” Magic Millions Managing Director Barry Bowditch reflected. “I felt it was really deep and genuine and diverse and fun and it had a lot of vibe to it.”

“It was what we like to create here at Magic Millions. It was a busy day. All-in-all we’re delighted with how today went.”

“We have a clearance rate of 83 per cent so the market is holding together really well. It’s increased five per cent from this time yesterday. That’s fantastic.”

“When you look at today’s sale, it would have averaged $300,000 which is a great effort for the 240 lots we offered and I think tomorrow will build upon itself again with any luck,” Bowditch added.
