Adelaide Bargains Shine In Singapore

While Mr Big and Always Certain were the headlines grabbers in Singapore over a big weekend’s racing, plenty of other Australian based gallopers were successful at Kranji.

Two such impressive winners, Samurai Phoenix and  Leave Me Alone, were both purchased for very modest prices from the Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale.

Samurai Phoenix led the way, the son of Giant’s Causeway winning for the third time in just 16 runs.

A graduate of Paul Whelan’s Luskin Park Stud, Samurai Phoenix has now earned over S$158,000.

“He was originally with Richard Jolly in Adelaide and I bought him after he won a trial at Cheltenham,” Brown reported.

“He spent a bit of time out of the stable but he’s back with me now and he’s won another race – so it’s a very good result.”

Lightly raced gelding Leave Me Alone broke through for trainer Alvin Tan and the Loyalty’s Stable when he finished powerfully in his two and three-year-old event on Sunday.

A son of King Charlemagne, Leave Me Alone is one of six winners produced by the unraced Zoffany mare Puddles.

“I’ve only taken over (training) him for a while and he’s taken some time to acclimatise, but I think he’s turned the corner now and this win proved it,” Tan said.

Leave Me Alone was purchased for just $5,000 from the 2009 Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale from the draft of Inman Valley Stud.

Another Adelaide Sale graduate to impress in Singapore over the weekend was One More Minute.

A son of Iglesia, One More Minute is prepared by Steven Burridge and he has tasted defeat just once – and on that occasion it was by the bob of a head.
