Connections Eye Magic Double-double With Safusa

Safusa will be out to be the second million dollar Magic Millions big race winner for connections after a runaway win in today’s $100,000 Magic Millions Wyong 3YO Stakes (1200m).

Trainer David Pfieffer is hoping Safusa can follow in the hoofsteps of Graceful Anna who won the 2010 Gold Coast Magic Millions 3YO Guineas after winning the feature three-year-old event at Wyong.

And Safusa’s owners Glenn and Viive Williams will be also out to complete a double-double following the Wyong-Gold Coast success of their flying filly Karuta Queen last year in both 2YO Classics.

“It’s straight to the Gold Coast from here,” Pfieffer said. “Three weeks between runs.”

“He’s had three weeks between runs twice now and it seems to suit him. Jay (Ford) will stick with him, I’d like to think he would anyway.”

“He’s a nice horse and I can’t wait to get him to the Gold Coast,” he added.

Ford, like Pfieffer, is looking forward to Queensland’s richest raceday – and Magic Millions – on January 14.

“He continues to improve,” Ford said. “He showed good speed from go to whoa today and just ran them off the bridle.”

“He gives himself every chance so the next step is the Gold Coast.”

Safusa was bred in Victoria by Ken Williams and sold through the draft of Segenhoe Stud and snapped up by Glenn Williams for $45,000.

Williams, from his Tarcoola Stud property on the Mornington Peninsula, has bred a number of star gallopers including multiple Group One winner Sacred Choice, another Gold Coast Yearling Sale graduates.

Interestingly both feature winners today at Wyong were bred in Victoria and sold at the Gold Coast.

“It’s great to see the Victorian bred Magic Millions graduates are going so well,” Tim Brown, Victorian and Tasmanian mananger of Magic Millions said.

“And I consider the group of horses coming up from Victoria this January will be the best yet.”

“Let’s not forget that the recent Breeders Plate winner Pierro was another sold earlier this year on behalf of Victoria’s David Kobritz,” Brown added.

Safusa is by Sepoy’s sire Elusive Quality and is the first named foal for the former outstanding South African racemare Zolaroyale.

A daughter of Dominion Royale, Zolaroyale won 10 races including the Group Three Champagne Stakes at Kenilworth – she was also placed in three Group One events.
